I used to work for a major fmcg company and after 2 years of good work, I was promoted and was approved to have a lady secretary. Which did not go down well with my boss who was a thiry year old veteran within the company.
As time passed by, I observed that my lady secretary started to refused my request for work and started to snoop for my boss. While I did not heed to it earlier it became a problem later. Much to my surprise and shock in the 4th year with company, certain acts of bullying were initiated by the lady secretary- gossiping, snooping and repeated acts of repeating whatever i was speaking or doing or writing. This was irritable a number of times. However as further time passed by through certain clues within the office I came to a shocking conclusion that I am being blamed for harassing my lady secretary. Though the source of this acts had been preparated by my veteran boss I had no way to prove it. Though I had never been officially called for a discussion the informal grapevine led to a disrepute of my professional image, many female & male members started passing out lewd comments while walking by my cubicle. On one occasion two senior lady colleagues came to my desk and started a random discussion about complaints and harassment and indirectly calling me names. Their voice was loud enough for people in the office to hear their words. Maligning my image further. It was a total nightmare and led to my final resignation as I could not take any further harassment in the office. I had no forum or any compassion from colleagues..even the CEO of the company, whom I thought was a nice man, practiced - on me -some of the false accusations acts like stalking in the office, clearing the throat, banging paper on the desk, snooping and repeating acts, pointing the finger etc. And once the CEO started there was no end to other members in the office started doing the same against me. It was free ticket for everyone in the office to mob me. I am not sure there is an act in India against workplace bullying, but going by experience and the pain, which also affected my personal life there should be one. I am going through PTSD and even after 1.5 years of leaving the company, even a small memory creates pain and anxiety.
